An Invitation to Prophetic Writing

    Do you love to write? Are you always taking notes, recording events or journaling your thoughts? Do you write poetry, songs or other creative styles of writing? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then God may be calling you to prophetic writing.
       
   Now you may be thinking, What is prophetic writing? Is this a new fad in the Christian world?  No it is not new, but a concept found in antiquity referred to as scribes. However, a Prophetic scribe will be writing the Rhema word of the Lord. It's actually a pretty simple concept. Just as a Holy Spirit filled believer can pray, dance, sing or draw prophetically, they can also write prophetically. Prophetic writing is different from writing in the natural. It is not planning and writing an essay for a class, which uses the mind and intellect. Nor is it writing a story or novel. Prophetic writing is when the Holy Spirit gives you the words to write and the writing just "flows". God could speak to you personally or he could give you a message for someone else.

   Here's how it works. First, you must desire for God to use you that way. You must be open to the idea that God could speak to you through writing. Psalm 45:1 “My heart overflows with a goodly theme; I address my psalm to a King. My tongue is like the pen of a ready writer.”

   Next, prepare yourself. Gather your writing materials and find a quiet spot to write so you won't be distracted. Putting on worship music is another option. Then ask God to speak to you. You may also want to pray in your heavenly language. Let Him guide your pen or your fingers (if you are typing). His words will flow out through writing!
       
    If you enjoy writing, then I encourage you to start a journal for prophetic writing and write in it on a regular basis, whether it be daily, weekly, bi weekly or even monthly. Make this part of your devotional time. Let God speak to you through writing. See if you could find any common themes throughout your journal. These may be things God is trying to communicate to you at the time.

Five things believers should do in this season of the open door.

Many men and women of God have been proclaiming that we are in the season of the open door. In this season, believers have access to natural and spiritual blessings that they did not have access to before. It has been spoken that God will open doors for new employment, financial blessings, restoration of relationships, opportunities to share Jesus with unbelievers and open heavens in this season. It already has happened for many people! If it hasn't happened for you yet, don't worry. Here are five things Christians should do right now to position themselves to walk through the open doors. 

1.Have a heart of expectancy. 

   

Believers must have faith and expect that God will really open doors for us. We cannot think things like God will never do it for me. Nothing good ever happens to me. I don't deserve it. We must beware of these thoughts and stop them as soon as they creep into our minds! I have found myself thinking such thoughts numerous times in the past. Lately, I have been training myself to stop these thoughts once I notice them. 

  

2. Keep your vision and goals in mind. 

   We need to write the vision for our lives down. Proverbs 29:8 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish". If we don't have a vision, we need to look into our hearts and see what our greatest desires are. We also need to ask God for guidance. Everyone should have a vision. A few weeks ago, God spoke to me about writing my vision down and making a life plan. I did that recently and noticed that my focus and productivity greatly improved. We should keep our vision and goals in our minds at all times. Apostle Ricci often encourages people to do something toward their goal every day, even if it is small. If we don't have a vision, we could be easily distracted, which brings me to my next point.

3.Beware of distractions. 

The enemy is working hard in this season to distract God's people so we would miss the open doors. We have to stay focused on God and on his plan for us. Distractions can come in many forms. They can come from outside sources such as illness, personal problems, temptation and unexpected trouble. We can also be distracted internally, by having unproductive or ungodly thoughts, mind fog and confusion. I personally became internally distracted and struggled with apathy in both the spiritual and natural realms. Others have also attested to distraction at this time. We need to be vigilant in not giving in to distractions. 

4.Listen for guidance from God and obey. 

Just as in any other time or season, Christians should listen for guidance and instructions from God and obey them. Obedience is part of being a disciple and son or daughter of God. In relation to this season, obeying God will position us for his blessings. God can open many doors in our lives but we need to do our part and walk through them! We need to fill out that job application, go shopping for that new car or talk to that person about Jesus. We cannot let fear, discouragement or personal pride stop us from obeying God. 

5.Perservere when challenges arise.

 Things may look negative at times but we can't give up! The season of the open door is not trouble free. We have to learn to look at challenges and trouble from God's perspective. God wants to turn things around for us. Romans ‪8:28 promises "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose". In fact, some doors are opened in the midst of trials. Maybe someone will come to the Lord through a trial.

Do you have a seer gift?

      Have you ever seen someone’s face as you were praying? Have you ever seen angels while worshiping at church? Do you sometimes see something in your mind before it happens? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you may have a seer gift. Now you may be thinking to yourself What is a seer gift? I have never heard of that before. Don’t worry. It’s not as spooky or strange as it may sound. Seers are seen throughout the Bible and are still active today!

       In depth information and training concerning seers is woven into the curriculum of the prophetic courses at the Samuel Elijah Prophetic College. There is a lot to learn about this subject! This post will provide a quick introduction.

What is a seer?

       A seer is somebody who could see into the supernatural realm by having visions. Visions are associated with the office of a prophet, but one doesn't have to be a prophet to have a seer gift. Joel 2:28 states that "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I shall pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions". God allows many to have dreams and visions, not just those who stand in the office of the prophet.    

       God used seers throughout the entire Bible. Joseph, Moses, Daniel, Ezekiel and Jeremiah were just a few of the seers in the OT. In the New Testament, Paul, Stephen and John also had visions, even though they were not explicitly called seers. In Jim Driscoll's The Modern Seer, Jim tells us that in scripture, God took ideas, actions and objects the Israelites commonly understood and used them to describe his nature. He continues to do this today. He will take ideas and objects that an individual personally understands and use them to describe His nature and will.

       It is also important to understand that not all prophets are seers. Some prophets do not have visions. Ten of the books written by minor prophets in the Old Testament have no visions in them. Likewise some prophets today do not see visions but are Nabi prophets, who simply speak the word of God to His people.

How does a seer see?

Visions are seen by a seer in the following ways:

1. The seer receives a message from God in a dream. Not all dreams are from God but God could speak to people through dreams. They are pictures that are seen when one is sleeping. Someone with a seer gift may have more God given dreams than a person who is not a seer.

    

2. The seer sees an internal picture in his or her mind. These pictures are like thoughts or memories. Everybody has these. However, unlike the natural process of reviewing a memory, these internal pictures are from God and are supernatural. A seer may have an image of something that will happen in the future, an idea given by the Holy Spirit after praying, or an object that God wants to use to speak to the seer.

3. The seer has an external vision. These are images in a physical sense. For example, the seer might see a person or object across the room. These images are often referred to as open visions and are rarer than internal pictures.

     So if you have had experiences where you have seen into the supernatural realm through mental pictures, external visions or dreams, then you should seek prophetic training.
